Our Story

The patient art of growing well

Hanami Grove began with a love of flowers and the places they come from. Years of travel through Vietnam and Japan, where plumeria grows around temples and pagodas and where every season of bloom is observed with care, gave us a feeling for how good growing is done.

Today, Hanami Grove is a small, family-owned plumeria operation in Fallbrook, California, in the agricultural hills of north San Diego County. The climate suits the plant: warm days, cool nights, dry summers, mineral-rich soil. The plumerias share the property with cherimoyas and other rare fruit, all of it grown the same way: in small numbers, with attention to each plant.

Why Plumeria

Plumerias love this kind of climate. Warm days, cool nights, dry summers, and mineral-rich soil give them everything they need to thrive. Their fragrance carries on the evening air. Their colors range from cream and butter-yellow to deep crimson and watermelon pink. Unlike many tropical flowers, plumerias are forgiving. They're hardy, generous, willing to bloom for growers who treat them well.

Most importantly, every plumeria is its own variety. Each cultivar has its own scent profile, its own bloom timing, its own personality. Each one earns its place in a collection.

Grown Here, Not Imported

Every plumeria we sell is grown on our property in Fallbrook. Not imported, not drop-shipped, not pulled from a wholesale lot. The cuttings you order come from trees we walk past every day, in soil we've tended ourselves.

Most plumeria sold in the United States travels long distances before it reaches a buyer, often through several hands. Ours doesn't. That means healthier cuttings, less transit stress, and full accountability for what we ship.

What We Do Differently

Hanami Grove is built around a simple commitment: curation over quantity. Every cutting we sell is hand-selected for health, root development, and varietal integrity. We don't mass-produce. We don't ship anything we wouldn't be proud to plant in our own garden.

There's a Japanese word, shokunin, that captures the spirit of how we work: the idea that craft is its own reward, that attentiveness to small details compounds into something rare. We grow fewer plants, more carefully, and stand behind each one personally.

The Grove

Hanami Grove is family-owned, in Fallbrook, where plumerias share the soil with cherimoyas and other rare fruit grown the same way: slowly, carefully, with attention to what each plant actually needs.

We're a small operation by design. When you order from us, you're not getting inventory pulled from a warehouse shelf. You're getting a cutting selected for you, from a grove we know plant by plant.

What We Promise

Quality. Every cutting is hand-selected, properly cured, and packed to arrive ready to root. We will not ship anything we wouldn't want to receive ourselves.

Honesty. What you see is what you get. Our photos are of our actual plants. Our descriptions are accurate. If a variety isn't in peak condition, we'll tell you and offer alternatives.

Care. We answer our own emails. If something goes wrong with your order, we make it right.

The patient approach. We're not trying to be the biggest plumeria seller. We're trying to be the one you trust.
